Currency Audio is an improvisational performance project by rudimental percussionist, producer and software engineer Rajeev Maddela. Exploring jungle, IDM, UK garage, dubstep and their various offshoots, Currency Audio aims to navigate these genres via Ableton Live, Max/MSP and MIDI percussion triggers to bring a refreshingly human approach to electronic music composition and performance.
His EP release ‘Humanism’ [Exit Records] was debuted to critical acclaim, having been featured on Resident Advisor’s ‘Best Singles of 2021’ and Bandcamp’s ‘Best Electronic Music’ August Roundup. Fully improvised without a click or backing tracks, his Currency Audio project aims to highlight the expressive qualities of natural time and increased dynamics, as well as a deep obsession with late 90's breakbeat music. In the not too distant past there were notable drops on the Queens based Mechanical label, and earlier this year saw yet another appearance on dBridge's Exit Records with his track "Adder" from the Exit 100 compilation. "Pstalemate / Four Archetypes" are the most recently pair of deep, dark, and minimal steppers dropped for his return to Noisy Meditation, this time with collaborator 88 Katanas. Additionally he has collaborated with: Jason Lindner, Takuya Nakumura, Jonathan Maron, BigYuki, Priya Darshini, Karsh Kale, Suphala, Anoushka Shankar, Tim Lefebvre, Tony Grey, Max ZT, and many others from the live electronic music scene. Currency is the state of being present. Be sure not to miss his debut Vermont performance.
